Emory S. Land Departs Mare Island, Returns to Sea

From when we arrived on Red, White, and Blue Day until the day we set sail, the city of Vallejo has been a fantastic host and partner. We appreciate the community’s support and patriotism.

It is very fitting for the Land to be the first Navy ship back in the city since 1996. When we arrived we noticed that the city and ship have similar nicknames. We call our ship the Land of Opportunity, and Vallejo is the City of Opportunity.

It was an honor to be the first Navy ship to return to service at Mare Island since 1996. Vallejo is a great navy town and has been supporting Sailors since 1854.
